July has been a hot one and fishing has been fantastic considering the air temps in the high 90’s and low 100’s. Summer here in Georgetown South Carolina our water can get down right HOT. Once the sun breaks the horizon the fish seem to get lazy and go deep. We have had some great tides cycles and the fishing has been epic at first light. Hungary Redfish have been taking flies and artificial baits very well.
Fishing for Redfish
Fly Fishing around Georgetown were having great success using black and purple baitfish flies. When guiding fly anglers I prefer to pole my skiff in the shallows looking for Redfish. Light tackle fishing using artificial baits like the DOA jerk shad in gold rush. The Redfish have been traveling in small schools of 5-15 in shallows tailing and flushing shrimp offering excellent sight casting opportunities. Spin and fly Fisherman love casting at targets and it has been a target rich environment the past weeks. The big bull Redfish bite has been congregating along the sand bars and in the deep water rips. I had the pleasure of meeting and guiding some great folks the past few weeks including some top notch fly casters from the Orvis Co. The fishing should continue to be steady and only get better.
