The Land of Giants is fishing exceptionally well this late April. Currents flows are 3,350 CFS, water temps at 45°F, and lake-run fish are still holding in the deeper slots throughout the canyon.

What’s Hatching below Hauser Dam
BWOs and midges, with very few fish up on top. The hatch activity is there but consistent dry fly action hasn’t materialized. That will change as water temps continue to climb and boat traffic slows down.
Nymphing the Land of Giants
The most productive approach right now. We’re fishing the deeper runs and picking up suspended fish in the slicks from the dam all the way down to Holter Lake. Leeches, sow bugs, scuds, and BWO nymph varieties are all getting it done. Get your flies in the zone and keep them there.

Streamer Fishing below Hauser
Hit and miss. The fluctuating weather has kept streamer fishing from clicking. The thin mint bugger and fruit rollup have been a top producers. We have been fishing them on sinking lines in the softer deep water with good success on big fish.
Top Flies – Land of Giants Late April
Nymphs: Sow Bugs, Scuds, Little Green Machines · BWO varieties
Streamers: Worth throwing, results variable. Thin Mint bugger, Fruit Roll up, kreelex.
Spring Weather in the Canyon
Spring on the LOG means being ready for anything. We’ve seen 75 and sunny and 35 and blowing snow in the same week. We pulled the plug on a trip just this week due to conditions. Build flexibility into your day and trust your guide, Holter lake can get pretty nautical in a hurry.

Looking Ahead – Land fo the Giants May Fishing
Things are running ahead of schedule this year. Chironomid fishing on Upper Holter Lake may kick up sooner than expected. We just picked up a solid round of snow, rain, and sleet and we hope it continues. The Missouri needs the moisture with projected flows at the 3000 cfs mark for the summer.
A friendly reminder: peak-season Land of Giants days book a year out due to limited permits and consistent demand. If next spring is on your radar, now is the time to reach out for 2027.
